Illinois COVID Cases Broken Down By Race

This line graph represents the number of Illinois COVID cases between the months of March 2020–May 2020. The data shows a number of patterns, starting with the first peak of cases in the Black community around April 5th with over 300 cases. This changes however, after April 12. The number of COVID cases within the Black community began to drop, while the Latinx community began to rise above all other races. The Latinx community saw the highest peak of cases, during the end of April 2020. This was in total over 550 cases within the Latinx community in Illinois. This could be due to a number of reasons, including that many Latinx households have many family members living under one roof, and many were essential workers. Who were needed during the most crucial and stressful times of the pandemic. We start to see these numbers drop again once we hit that second week of May. This could be due to the positive effects of the lockdown and implements of wearing the mask and social distancing. The groups who were least affected by the virus were the Asian and White community, who never reached above more than 50 cases for Asians and 150 cases for Whites.
